Military Cross 'During the attack on the eastern end of Peronne on 2nd September 1918, he was in command of his company when the enemy were observed massing on his front preparatory to a counter attack. He collected a number of captured machine guns, and skilfully disposing them in favourable positions, enabled the line to cope with the attack and also to advance. His personal gallantry under fire and coolness were an inspiration to all.'
