Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He greatly assisted his officer in directing and controlling his men under very heavy fire. Later he moved about in the open encouraging his men, and setting a splendid example.'
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 62 Date: Military Cross 'Near Jeancourt, on 18th September 1918, when a very strong enemy position in Brosse Wood was threatening th old up the advance of his company, he led his men with marked courage, overcoming the resistance and capturing the position, with two machine guns and fifty prisoners. Though wounded, he carried on and cleared up the wood and advanced to the final objective over 15,000 yards further on. He only left the line after consolidation was complete. His conduct was splendid.'
