'This N.C.O. has set a bright example during the past six months by the capable manner in which he has carried out his duties. He always showed a keen interest in his Company's welfare and is prepared to sacrifice himself to any extent on its behalf. As a Corporal he was awarded the Military Medal for personal bravery at POZIERES on July 23rd, 1916.'
