Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership during the advances from 2nd to 16th October, 1918, through Hulluck, wingles, and across the Houte Denle Canal. His section were engaged in removing land mines and traps, frequently under heavy fire. It was largely due to his personal efforts (often working in front of the infantry) that all the mines in the area were quickly rendered harmless. Later on he constructed two bridges across the canal for heavy transport out of enemy materials.'
