Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer. While the battalion was in the line he worked continuously, attending to the wounded under a heavy bombardment of gas and high explosive shells. He set a splendid example to all ranks by his coolness and courage.'
