Military Medal 'On the night of 14th May 1917, in the vicinity of NOREUIL, this N.C.O. was in charge of a horse-drawn convoy of gas "guns" for the front line. The enemy put a barrage of gas shells across the sunken road through which the convoy had to pass, but, notwithstanding, this N.C.O. after straightening out his column, which had become disorganised at first owing to heavy shelling, got his wagons through the barrage at intervals, and by his personal courage and supervision, which necessitated his riding through the barrage several times, he accomplished his duty with only slight losses. his example of courage, determination, and devotion to duty, and his handling of a difficult situation, inspired complete confidence not only to his drivers but to the infantry loading party concerned.'
