Military Medal

'On the morning of 5th April 1918, near DERNANCOURT, this N.C.O. displayed great bravery and devotion to duty during an attack by the enemy in overwhelming numbers. He assisted his Officer in organising an Engineer working party in a support line under very heavy fire. Several men being wounded, he went to their assistance and was himself wounded. He, however, continued to adjust field dressings with the utmost bravery even after being wounded a second time.'
