Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He colunteered as forward observation officer, and though it was dark, and the route was unknown to him he reached his post successfully. While on duty he several times crossed backwards and fowards under heavy fire to battalion headquarters, where signallers were maintaining communication, and was able to trasmit valuable reports to Divisional Artillery Headquarters, thus contributing to an opreation which was entirely successful.'
