'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of a party carrying rations to the front line. His party came under a heavy barrage, and eight of them were wounded. He got his men to cover, despatched the wounded to the aid post, reoganized his party, and delivered the rations to the battalion in the front line.'
