War service: Egypt Embarked from Sydney, 18 October 1914; disembarked Suez, 4 December 1914. Severely reprimanded, 26 February 1915: awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay. Commenced return to Australia on board 'Ulysses', deemed 'Services no longer required/disciplinary', 22 March 1915; disembarked Melbourne, 15 April 1915 (rapid pulse); discharged Sydney, 4 June 1915 (no reason stated). Base Records, 20 August 1925, wrote: '... returned "Medically Unfit", he resumed duty however on 3/6/15, and is recorded as having been discharged at Sydney on 4/6/15. In a communication from the Commandant, 2nd M.D., notifying the date of discharge, no reason for the termination of his service is given, although the decision of the Medical Board on 26/5/15, was to the effect that Leech be returned to Active Service.'
