Bar to Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He worked for four days in the open attending to the wounded, in the course of which he dressed 300 cases. Seven intense barrages were put down by the enemy, but he went on with his duties, showing a total disregard for danger. His courage, devotion to duty, and endurance greatly inspired all ranks, and undoubtedly saved many lives.'
