'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 14th October, 1917. This Driver was taking ammunition by pack transport to his Battery position near ZONNEBEKE. The road was heavily shelled by the enemy. This Driver went through the enemy barrage and delivered his loads thereby setting an example to his comrades. This Driver and one other were the only men who succeeded in supplying ammunition on this date to this Battery.'
