Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. As a stretcher bearer he showed great gallantry and coolness in attending to wounded men under very intense Machine Gun and Artillery Fire. He worked unceasingly for 36 hours getting men away and attending to those who could not be sent away at once. His work was done in a most exposed position and he moved about attending the wounded with admirable courage and cheerfulness throughout the action with utter disregard for his own personal safety. To him and the stretcher bearers under him is due the very successful manner in which the men were attended to and evacuated.'
