Military Medal 'At VILLERS BRETONNEUX during the period 24th/28th April, 1918, Driver LEWIS showed the greatest coolness and courage in carrying out the duty of runner. Driver LEWIS rendered most valuable assistance throughout the operation. He constantly, day and night, passed through heavy enemy barrages, both forward to the front line and back to Battalion Headquarters, thus enabling his Company Commander to maintain communication when all lines were cut and all other means of communication failed. His courage and devotion to duty was of the highest order and deserves recognition.'
