Military Medal 'Is brought to notice for his great gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on LE VERGUIER on the morning of the 18th September 1918. After his Platoon Commander had become a casualty early in the operation, he quickly re-organised and assumed command of the greater portion of the Platoon, and despite heavy machine gun fire kept his position in the line of advance. It is due to the great gallantry and initiative displayed by this Non-Commissioned Officer that the possibility of a gap in the line was averted. For his courage and excellent leadership on this occasion he is recommended for distinction.'
