'On night 23rd/24th June, 1918 South West of METEREN when his platoon Commander became a casualty and the platoon had come under enemy shell fire he took charge, and reorganised, and moved to the final objective. This N.C.O. showed coolness and initiative and set a fine example, and throughout the day displayed great heart and energy.'
