War Service: Embarked from Australia 9 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 20 July 1916. Awarded 3 days fatigues while at sea; Charged with being Absent Without Leave from midnight 7 August 1916 to 2 pm 8 August 1916. Awarded 7 days confinement to barracks and forfeiture of 1 days pay. 14 October 1916: Disobedience of orders, Lark Hill, England "After being told by Sgt. Bailey not to fall out, he fell out at 2 am 7 October and remained absent to 10 am 7 October. Awarded 7 days Field Punishment No. 2, and forfeiture of 7 days pay. 25 November 1916 Proceeded overseas to France from Southampton. Proceeded on leave in England 25 November 1917; rejoined 43rd Battalion 12 January 1918. Wounded in action 13 April 1918; admitted to 12th Casualty Clearing Station (gun shot wound to foot and hand); admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Rouen; Embarked for England 29 May 1918 per H.S. "Grantully Castle"; admitted 30 May 1918 to 5th Southern General Hospital, Portsmouth. Transferred form 5th AGH Portsmouth to Dartford, 28 August 1918; discharged to No. 26 Convalescent Depot, Weymouth, 10 September 1918.
