Appointed Lance Corporal, 16 August 1915; promoted Sergeant, 28 August 1915; 2nd Lieutenant, 22 October 1915. Mentioned in Army Corps Routine Orders, 13 October 1915, for 'good reconnaissance work'. With detachment to Mudros, 10 November 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 27 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Promoted Lieutenant, 24 March 1916.
