Proceeded overseas to France, 16 July 1917; joined 11th Bn, 4 August 1917.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, 3 January 1918 (otitis media); discharged to duty, 10 January 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 6 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 25 March 1918.

Wounded in action, 18 September 1918, and admitted to 1st Australian Field Ambulance (gun shot wound, scalp); transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station, 18 September 1918; to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 19 September 1918; to England, 22 September 1918, and admitted to Military Hospital, Magdalen Camp, Winchester (shrapnel wound, skull). Granted furlough, 30 October-13 November 1918, to report to No. 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 13 November 1918. Mached out to Overseas Training Brigade, Hurdcott, 21 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HMAT 'Ceramic', 25 January 1919; disembarked Western Australia, 3 March 1919; discharged, 15 April 1919.
