Embarked Alexandria, 9 May 1915; landed at Gallipoli, 12 May 1915. Appointed Temporary Corporal, 11 August 1915; substantive rank confirmed same day. Admitted to hospital, Gallipoli, 2 September 1915; transferred to No 1 General Hospital, Heliopolis, 5 September 1915 (diarrhoea); to Australian & New Zealand Convalescent Hospital, Helouan, 17 September 1915; discharged to duty, 2 October 1915. Admitted to No 1 General Hospital, Heliopolis, 17 October 1915 (anorexia); rejoined unit, 1 January 1916.

Proceeded to join Western Frontier Force, 14 January 1916; saw action with the 1st Light Horse Regiment against the Senussi.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 August 1916; marched in to D Battery, Australian Artillery Training Depot, Bulford, England, 8 August 1916.

Attached to Army Pay Corps, 5 December 1916; grantred leave (date not recorded); rejoined Pay Corps from leave, 22 april 1917.
