Military Cross ''For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on a position, when his battalion was under a very heavy and accurate shell fire. The control post was blown in by a shell, but he continued to direct and control the fire of the battalion in the open until he was severely wounded. His splendid courage under heavy fire and at a most critical time, was invaluable to his battalion and a fine example to his men.''
