Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He had only four men with him. He joined another officer with six men, and they attacked a party of some eighty of the enemy with machine guns. He killed eight of the enemy, and, between them, his party captured a machine gun, three officers, and 50 men, and killed the remainder.'
