'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership. He led his platoon with great dash and skill in an attack and when held up by machine gun fire he succeeded in capturing the guns and their crews. After the capture of the second objective he led a fighting patrol in a most determined manner, and dislodged an enemy post.'
