'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while battalion intelligence N.C.O. during an enemy counter attack. When the enemy temporarily succeeded in entering the trench past the bomb block, killing the officer in charge and the N.C.O. Sergeant Little, on his own initiative, reformed the remainder of the party and led them again to the attack. He killed many of the enemy, re-established the position, and cleared up a serious situation. His conduct throughout was a fine example to his men.'
