'For consistent gallantry and devotion to duty during the period 25 February 1918 to 16 September 1918. He has at all times behaved in a thoroughly gallant manner, and has carried out his duties with marked ability. His coolness and excellent handling of his gun and detachment under heavy shell fire have on many occasions had a most beneficial effect on the morale of those about him. He has always set a fine example of cool courage under fire.'
