The 32nd Bn (Headquarters, Signallers, A, B, C, and D Companies) embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on two ships, HMAT A2 'Geelong', on 18 November 1915, and HMAT A13 'Katuna', on 24 November 1915. The Embarkation Roll does not distinguish between these ships, and it is therefore not possible from the Embarkation Roll to ascertain on which ship an individual embarked.

Meritorious Service Medal

'R.Q.M.S. LODGE has been R.Q.M.S. of this Battalion since April 1917. He has carried out he duties of Regimental Quartermaster on several occasions, once for a period of six months continuously. His work has at all times been of the greatest value to the Battalion, and during a tour in the line he has always personaly seen that hot food reached the men. He has shown a very fine spirit of devotion to duty under difficult circumstances and has the comfort of the men at heart always.' Second statement reads: 'At BELLICOURT (Hindenburg Line) during the operations 29th September/1st October 1918 R.Q.M.S. LODGE 32nd Battalion A.I.F. displayed great courage and imitative in bringing forward under heavy enemy machine gun and shell fire, the rations for the Battalion. On the night 29th/30th September, whilst a heavy enemy counter-attack was in progress he with his party was caught in the barrage and owing to his skilful leadership and bravery he brought the party through with a minimum of loss. On succeeding days his work was of a very high order, and at all times hot food was brought under him to the front line. This W.O. has always shown gallantry and devotion to duty in the many attacks the Battalion has been engaged and throughout the Autumn campaign he specially distinguished himself in similar actions to the above, at all times the welfare of his Company has been his first consideration regardless of all danger.'

On leave, 27 December 1916; rejoined Bn from leave, 9 January 1917.

Appointed regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (Warrant Officer Class II), 29 April 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 5 June 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 23 June 1918.

Awarded Meritorious Service Medal, 24 January 1919.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 5 March 1919.
