Bar to Military Medal

'Is recommended for great bravery and leadership in action near HAMEL WOOD, east of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. This N.C.O.'s Platoon was on the right flank of the Battalion during the attack and he displayed great coolness and initiative throughout. When the advancing troops on his left were being troubled by an enemy post he worked round, rushed the post and killed all the garrison. During the consolidation this N.C.O. was particularly conspicuous moving up and down the line encouraging the men and generally supervising the work under heavy enemy machine gun and artillery fire. This N.C.O. has shown great gallantry on many past occasions, and is well worthy of recognition. He was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry at BULLECOURT, 11th April, 1917.'
