Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, on 5th November 1918, near Angreau. Sent out with his troops to reconnoitre the crossing over the river, his patrol was held up by heavy machine gun fire, so he went forward alone, and though in the open and fully exposed to fire, gained the required information, and in addition marked the pin point of several machine guns, which were subsequently effectively dealt with by the artillery.'
