War service: taken on strength, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 28 December 1915.

Admitted to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 29 December 1915 (influenza); discharged to A&NZ Convalescent Camp, Helouan, 22 January 1916.

Admitted to 31st General Hospital, Port Said, 21 June 1916 (septic leg); discharged to unit, 27 June 1916.

Transferred to 2nd Light horse Training Regiment, 12 September 1916.

Marched in to Isolation Camp, Moascar, 25 September 1916; rejoined unit, 2 October 1916.

Transferred to 7th Light Horse Regiment, and reported to unit, Hill 70, 12 November 1916.

Found guilty, 19 June 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, in that he, at El Fukhari on 16 June 1917 when ordered to groom a horse, made use of the words: 'Fuck him, he had better stay as he is': awarded 48 hours' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 31 August 1917 (malaria); transferred to Red Cross Convalescent Hospital, Montazah, 18 September 1917; to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 25 September 1917; to Red Cross Convalescent Hospital, Montazah, 30 November 1917 (gallstones and paratyphoid malaria); discharged to Moascar Camp, Ismailia, 5 December 1917.

Transferred to Rest Camp, Port Said, 9 December 1917.

Classified 'A' by Medical Board, 11 March 1918.

Commenced return to Australia from Port Said on board HT 'Wandilla', 12 April 1919; arrived Melbourne, 18 May 1919, to disembark Sydney; discharged, Sydney, 18 January 1920.
