War service: Egypt, Western Front Disembarked Suez, 11 December 1915. Detached to School of Instruction, Zeitoun, 1 April 1916; rejoined unit, 23 April 1916. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 June 1916. Wounded in action, 20 July 1916 (gun shot wound, right arm and side), and admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne. Transferred to England, 4 September 1916 (dangerously ill); admitted to Lord Pitt's Military Hospital, Chatham, 7 September 1916 (bullet wound, chest; shell wound, fractured forearm). Transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 6 February 1917. Commenced return to Australia from Avonmouth on board HS 'Karoola', 22 February 1917; discharged, 12 October 1917.
