Military Medal 'For conspicuous galantry in the capture of part of the HINDENBURG LINE on 3rd May 1917, in charge of a Lewis Gun with which he did excellent work during the assault. Later he volunteered to collect bombs from casualties in the open under heavy Machine Gun fire in order to supplement supplies at a time when the enemy was making a serious bombing attack and his comrades were likely to run short.'
