'During period 11th/16th September 1918, in operations North West of ST. QUENTIN, this man showed continuous conspicuous gallantry, and did splendid work as a Company Runner. Under heavy Machine Gun fire he repeatedly carried important messages and information from his Company to Battalion Headquarters and to the Platoon Commanders. His unfailing courage and splendid devotion to duty were the means of communications being kept during the whole operation.'
