Military Medal 'During the attack on LAGNICOURT on the morning 26th March 1917 this N.C.O. was in charge of a Platoon in the second wave. He did splendid work in clearing up in all Sunken Roads. he fought against great odds, as many as ten to one, and on each occasion finished off the enemy before going on. When the final objective was reached he tried to get in touch with people on our right and was shot in the foot. He remained on duty consolidating the position until he was eventually ordered to go back.'

He took charge of the platoon and showed great skill and leadership throughout the attack. He led his men and kept them together, although the fog and smoke made this very difficult. After casualties had been inflicted on our men by a nest of enemy machine guns, this N.C.O. organised a party and enveloped the post, killing or capturing the whole garrison. He collected his platoon again and moved well up under the barrage, grasping each situation quickly, and assisting the Canadian troops materially by mopping up posts on the South side of the railway. He showed great initiative throughout, and set a fine example of courage.'
