War service: Western Front Embarked Brisbane, 19 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 December 1916. Found guilty, Pioneer Training Bn, Larkhill, of being absent without leave from midnight, 21 December, to 7 pm, 23 December 1916: awarded 4 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 8 days' pay. Taken on strength, 4th Pioneer Bn, in the field, France, 15 March 1917. On leave to England (date not recorded); admitted to No 7 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, on returning from leave, 30 November 1917; transferred to 39th General Hospital, Havre, 1 December 1917 (venereal disease); transferred to Base Depot, Havre, 17 January 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 49 days; rejoined unit, in the field, 27 January 1918.
