Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack at VILLE-SUR-ANCRE near ALBERT on the 19th May, 1918. This N.C.O. was detailed to carry boxes of bombs to the forward positions. He was carrying a full load of bombs, when suddenly he came across two German Snipers. Immediately he rushed them, without waiting to get his rifle ready, and after a sharp tussle, took both prisoners without the aid of any weapon. His soldierly conduct and great personal bravery in this action undoubtedly saved the lives of many of his comrades.'
