'For outstanding Gallantry and devotion to duty while clearing wounded during operations on 11th and 12th April, 1917 - Australian Attack on HINDENBURG LINE, near BULLECOURT. He worked for twenty one hours over a track continuously under shell fire organising fresh stretcher parties, carrying wounded himself and heartening the men. He set a magnificent example to his comrades. This Non Commissioned Officer has done most excellent work on many other occasions.'
