Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near BRAY on 22nd August, 1918. When the attacking infantry were held up by heavy machine gun and artillery fire near their consolidating line in front of BRAY he went forward to within 100 yards of the village with his trench mortar effectively engaging the enemy trench mortar and machine guns which were causing severe casualties to our troops. When his ammunition was expended he together with [31127] Corporal FRASER returned for more ammunition. His initiative in bringing forward ammunition under heavy fire proved very helpful to the consolidating infantry in that his trench mortar was thereby able to subdue enemy machine guns and enabled the infantry to establish their line. He showed great courage and devotion to duty throughout the whole operation.'
