'Sergeant LYONS was in charge of a machine gun in the attack on the HINDENBURG LINE on 3rd May near BULLECOURT. While our Infantry withdrew he took a position about 100 yards from the enemy line on the flank of the Brigade covering the writhdrawal. He remained in this position throughout the operation, despite very heavy hostile shelling, inflicting very heavy casualties on the enemy and materially assisting the ultimate consolidation of the position.
