Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, 9 January 1916, and transferred same day to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Hospital; transferred to Abbassia Isolation Barracks, 10 January 1916; discharged to duty from No 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, 15 February 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 38 days.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 15 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 21 March 1916.

Admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, 11 June 1916 (sprained ankle); transferred to 2nd Divisional Rest Station, 12 June 1916; returned to unit, 20 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 5 August 1916 (gun shot wound, leg); admitted to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 6 August 1916; transferred to England, 10 August 1916, and admitted to Oxford General Hospital, 8 August 1916 (dangerously ill); transferred to 1st Australian Auxiiary Hospital, Harefield, 2 November 1916; discharged on furlough, 22 November 1916, to report to No 1 command Depot, 23 November 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 20 June 1917; rejoined unit, 9 July 1917.

Admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, 6 January 1918 (diarrhoea); discharged to duty, 10 January 1918.

On leave to England, 3 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 18 March 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 8 August 1918 (shell wound, right leg), and admitted to 1st Australian Field Ambulance and then to 5th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train to 47th General Hospital, 8 August 1918; to England, 11 August 1918, and admitted to 4th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, 12 August 1918. Discharged on furlough, 12 October 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 26 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Bakara', 22 December 1918; arrived Melbourne, 14 February 1919, for onward travel to Brisbane; discharged, Brisbane, 5 April 1919.
