Proceeded overseas to France, 21 November 1916. Wounded in action, 23 January 1917 (gun shot wounds, jaw, both legs, left arm, scrotum), and admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 13th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 27 January 1917; to England, 29 January 1917, and admitted to Bath War Hospital, 30 January 1917 (multiple shell wounds: severe); transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 28 February 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 9 April 1917.
