Military Medal

'North west of POZIERES on 7th/12th August, 1916. For carrying messages of five separate occasions through heavy shell fire. I strongly recommend this man for some reward for the gallantry he showed on all occasions.'

Bar to Military Medal

'This N.C.O. distinguished himself in the attack near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. He was in charge of a Vickers machine gun and went over with the first wave of the Brigade. On securing our final objective he rushed his gun forward under heavy shell fire. His gun was destroyed by shell fire and at great personal risk he and his crew secured a German gun which was in a shell hole out in front of our objective and brought this gun back and brought it into action and secured ammunition for it. He employed his gun to the greatest advantage against the enemy when they counter attacked and he inflicted heavy losses upon them. Throughout the whole period of the attack he set a fine example of courage and cheerfulness. He is recommended for a Bar to his Military Medal.'
