Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Posted missing, 19/20 July 1916. Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 4 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 19/20 July 1916'. Note, Red Cross File No 1890506: 'No trace Germany. Cert by Capt. Mills. 10.10.19.' Statement, 4270 Pte A.C. CAMERON, 54th Bn (patient, 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, England), 9 October 1916: 'He was alright after the attack on that date [19-20 July 1916] at Armentieres, fir (sic) he came up and spoke to me as I lay wounded in the trench, when it was over on the 20/7/16.
