Military Medal 'At MT. ST. QUENTIN North of PERONNE on the 1st September 1918 this man placed his Lewis Gun in such a position that he was able to bring effective fire on the enemy as they retired out of the trenches which were being stormed by our bombing parties. Though exposed to heavy sniping and machine-gun fire he continued with his work and refused to leave the post of vantage until the enemy post had been thoroughly dealt with. Private Bees killed six of the enemy and wounded several with his harassing fire.'
