Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29th October, 1917, whilst proceeding along the MENIN Road east of YPRES, this Driver's team came under heavy enemy shell fire. As the result of a shell bursting in the roadway a number of planks were thrown among the horses, but Driver MALLINSON, by his coolness and resourcefulness, succeeded in getting the team clear - thus averting probable casualties to men and horses. He carried on until the gun carriage under his charge was eventually thrown bodily into a shell hole. He set a splendid example to all ranks present.'
