'This N.C.O. has performed consistently good work over a long period. He has worked untiringly throughout all the recent operations in keeping up communications between his Company and battalion Headquarters. During the operations at GRANDCOURT, east of AMIENS, on 3rd October, 1918, Lance Corporal MALONE showed very high courage, resource, and devotion to duty in his capacity as N.C.O. in charge of 'B' Company Signallers. He was directly instrumental in keeping up communication with Battalion Headquarters; each time the lines were cut he went out personally, frequently through heavy barrages. When broken wires prevented telephonic communication, he organised a system of runners, and successfully kept touch until repairs were executed. Also during the operations at MORLANCOURT on 10th June, 1918, this N.C.O. did very conspicuous work.'
