Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative during the attack on Peronne, 1st September, 1918, when he led his company through heavy artillery and machine gun fire almost to Peronne ramparts, where he established a defence position. At great personal risk he then went out to locate the flanks of two other battalions, and successfully linked up with them. On the 2nd September he was wounded early in the attack, but in the evening again took charge of his company.'
