Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations on the YPRES front from the 4th to 12th October, 1917. He drove a motor lorry evacuating walking wounded from the BIRR CROSS ROADS and Advance Dressing Station MENIN ROAD to the C.S.S. During this time the road was heavily shelled and he never failed to maintain the service although he was working night and day under constant strain and particularly when the train service frequently failed. The lorry park in YPRES was shelled and bombed on three occasions and during this period and on each occasion he set a splendid example of coolness and disregard of personal danger thus greatly assisting in the successful evacuation of the wounded.'
