Distinguished Conduct Medal 'During the fighting on the morning of 29 September, 1918, he became separated from the infantry to which he was attached, eventually getting his guns into position in Top Lane Trench. The enemy made a determined attempt to bomb him out, but he and his gun team fought them off with their revolvers and rifles.'
