Distinguished Service Order

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He led his company with great ability, and headed a rush on an enemy machine gun, shooting three of the enemy himself. He was wounded through the chest and arm, but remained to see the trench mopped up and his company advancing before handing over to his next in command. He showed fine courage and leadership.'
