'On the 12th August, 1918, during operations on the SOMME, near PROYART, Private MARSH was employed as Company runner, and carried out this responsible and dangerous work for many hours continuously. A heavily shelled area and to be traversed on each occasion, and Private MARSH's time for traversing the 2,000 yards of the direct route was 15 minutes. His plucky endurance and resolution were of material value in maintaining communication.'
